Generalized Anxiety Case (Contd.)
If there is one thing that frustrates us about
clinical management of sick patients and that is the fact
that these same sick patients are being treated based on pseudo
scientific methods.
We have discovered that the implementation of objective
laboratory tests has two huge benefits.
First and foremost, you are using tests that are duplicatable
leaving very little room for doubt as for its reliability
and reproducibility.
Remember treatment should be based on objective
findings and not some questionable testing
procedure which has no inter-reproducibility among physicians.
In addition to the value of providing measurable objective
results there is one major benefit which you need to
understand, and that is the fact that patients believe
and accept objective lab tests.
In our 38 combined years in practice we have yet to see anything that
comes close to the power of lab results printed on paper.
If you want patient compliance, then you are going to be
searching a long time to find anything that compares to the
impact of the printed lab test.
With this in mind, here is the continuation of our case on
anxiety.
As we previously mentioned, Pat's cortisol levels were significantly
elevated and part of the treatment consisted of a cortisol
dampening supplement called Phosphatidylserine.
Now one of the questions that we asked ourselves after receiving
the results of Pat's cortisol labs was "what was
the cause(s) of those elevated cortisols?"
To determine this, you will need to do some detective work:
First and foremost prolonged psychological stress could be
a factor. However, this is not the only cause.
Here is short list of "stressors" which should
be ruled out.
-
-
Environmental and chemical toxicities
-
Bacterial and parasitic GI infections
-
Fungal (candida) infections
By the way, if you are thinking we left out subluxation, you
are right. We will save the topic of subluxation for another
article.
Based on Pat's medical history, we had a strong suspicion
that part of her problem was linked to a functional disorder
of the gut.
As documented in the remarkable book Second
Brain :
A Groundbreaking New Understanding of Nervous Disorders
of the Stomach and Intestine by Michael Gershon M.D.,
there is a strong relationship between anxiety, depression
and problems with the gut.
| The digestive system, via Gershon's work, is
the source of neurotransmitters, so there is a substantial
amount of information here for anyone interested in
neurology, neuroscience, psychiatry, and of course the
behavior of the digestive tract. |

We were confident our suspicions were well founded and decided
to order a comprehensive
candida blood test.
Here is a copy of the actual
test results we obtained on Pat
Take a good look at these
results!
This is what we were talking
about.
There is no question we have
a patient with a serious candida infection. One look at the
IgG at 9800 and the positive candida
PCR shows us a patient with widespread candidiasis.
In fact there is no question
that most traditional physicians would not discount
the results of this lab test.
As it was to be, that is
exactly what happened. Pat's primary physician was very open
to co-manage this case with us.
He prescribed Fluconazole
(Diflucan).
This was rotated with an
anti-candida natural product and a comprehensive candida treatment
protocol.
Although Pat's treatment
was more involved then the above, our point in sharing this
case with you is to show you the significance of objective
lab results.
Pat's response to treatment
was simply outstanding.
She continued to progress
and has been anxiety-free for the last four years.
